Event Description
With Covid-19 having affected all facets of day to day life, the disability community has all but disappeared from public spaces, discourse, and policy decisions. Dis/Play shines a light on over 50 disabled creatives telling their own stories, woven into a 10 minute multi-media display that will be projected onto unique exterior walls across Tkaronto, with original musical accompaniment and embracing disability aesthetics.
Dis/Play uses video projection and oral storytelling to explore the prompt, “How do you want to be seen?”. Audiences will encounter the stories of artists Jasmine Noseworthy Persaud, Winter Plum, and Michel Dumont, accompanied by images and video clips that visually represent their words. Between each story, visual art by a dynamic cross section of disabled creatives will emerge and float into focus. These pieces will be underscored by descriptive words chosen by the artists to reflect the intention of their work, sung by Ophira Calof.
