The Spoken Soul Collective (SSC) is a powerhouse team of artists and curators made up of Award-Winning Artist Paulina O’Kieffe-Anthony, Scarborough Walk of Fame Inductee, Dwayne Morgan, and Ontario Poet Laureate, Randell Adjei.
Working as a collective since 2018, the SSC first produced the inaugural Toronto Spoken Soul Festival, before taking the reins of the East Hub in Scarborough for ArtworxTO.
Deeply entrenched in the arts and cultural community, the SSC works to bring marginalized artists to the forefront from the margins.
Scarborough: The Backbone reflects the rich diversity and history of Scarborough, while at the same time highlighting that this part of Toronto, which is so often overlooked and negatively reported on, has actually significantly contributed to the Toronto arts scene, producing many of Toronto's iconic arts and culture makers; thus, it is the artistic and cultural backbone of this City. This exhibition will create a space to come together to celebrate this community as the innovative and influential arts and culture that is.
