Garden Court Podcast
Garden Court (1990-92) at Brookfield Place is not only a plaza in Toronto's financial district but also a public artwork by the American artist Scott Burton (1939-1989). Its orchestrated design encompasses seating and lamp posts surrounding a central island of plantings and a reflecting pool. Yet despite its prominence, a curious mixture of circumstances has kept it obscure. This podcast, narrated by curator Rui Mateus Amaral and artist Paul P., invites the public to discover an artwork hiding in plain sight.
It includes a land acknowledgement, a summary of Garden Court’s origins and significance, as well as notes on Burton's intentions, narrated by Rui Mateus Amaral. It concludes with Paul P.'s reflections on Burton's influence and the making of the publication, Garden Court, Scott Burton.
