Spadina Line | Part 3

Transcript

If you look in the bridge, specifically if you look over to the east wall of the bridge you will see 3 metal bars inserted at various angles into the walls of the bridge. And if you do go over to the east side and examine the bars themselves you'll notice that they're 3 different materials. One is rusting and very dark. It's iron.  Another one is very bright and shiny. It's stainless steel or nickel. And then there is a third bar that's somewhat transformative. It's probably at this time green or it could be copper colour. And it is in fact copper. What each of those materials discuss, are the different ores that were carried by the railway.

There's also, if you look within the bridge itself on the west wall of the bridge you will see a time vault that has 5 specific doors on it. Each of those doors has a word etched into them. And you'll see that those words move from a terrestrial or physical into a celestial or ephemeral. And each of those words have multi-meanings, multivalent meanings as well. They refer both to the history of the place again, to the importance and the history of the railway as well as to other ideas about settlement about urbanity and about our existence.
